Manual Lymphatic Drainage Benefits

Functions of the Lymphatic System

Fluid balance. The lymphatic vessels transport back to the blood fluids that have escaped from the blood vascular system. About 30 liters (L) of fluid pass from the blood capillaries into the interstitial spaces each day, whereas only 27 L pass from the interstitial spaces back into the blood capillaries. If the extra 3 L of interstitial fluid remained in the interstitial spaces, edema would result, causing tissue damage and eventually death. The remaining fluid enters the lymphatic capillaries, where the fluid is called lymph.

Fat absorption. The lymphatic system absorbs fats and other substances from the digestive tract. Lacteals are special lymphatic vessels located in the lining of the small intestine. Fats enter the lacteals and pass through the lymphatic vessels to the venous circulation.

House of the body’s defenses. The lymphoid tissues and organs house phagocytic cells and lymphocytes, which play essential roles in body defense and resistance to disease.

The Lymphatic System is a Major Body System and the front line in our defence in fighting infections, detoxifying the body and transporting metabolic waste, excess fluid, toxins and bacteria out of the body :

Role of Lymphatics

The bodies waste disposal unit acting as a giant detox plant, mopping up daily toxins.

Part of both immune system and circulatory system

Assists in maintaining our homeostatic fluid Volume

Picks up excess fluid and protein thus preventing toxic shock

Helps transport Immuno- competent cells around the body to localise infection (immune system)

LIGHT MANUAL THERAPY THIS IS NOT A MASSAGE - No oil is used during my session only arrowroot or cornflour to assist with glide over skin.

75% of the Lymphatic Fluid is just below the the skin and above the muscle fascia

so we are talking very light work to move this fluid in particular directions to the Nodes.

Though light work - Clients normally fall asleep :)

2 Litres if Lymph circulates throughout the whole body in 24 hours , post Lymphatic drainage this can increase to 10-20 Litres.

According to research conducted by Bruno Chikly. The body produces 30% more immuno-competent cells post MLD.

Your Parasympathetic Nervous system is stimulated during a session reducing pain by sedating sensory nerve endings. You will feel very relaxed.

It may be light work but it also relaxes tonic organs and muscles softening tissues : Great pre surgery

Fluid Circulation and Elimination:

There is a reduction of fluid and greater elimination of fluid from the interstitial tissues. This lead to greater tissue health and easier lymphatic flow

Using mild mechanical stretching of the connective tissue to facilitate decongestion of lymph ducts.

MLD Allows regenerative fluid to flow and improves circulation, toxin removal as well as carrying vital substances to areas where it is needed, hastening healing times.

Each watershed drains to a particular region of lymph nodes. (Above)

Increase Immunity

Detox

Reduce Fluid Retention

Improve Injury Recovery Time

Pain Relief

Contraindication

Malignant Tumors

Acute Viral Inflammation

Acute Bronchitis

Deep Vein Thrombosis DVT

Arteriosclerosis (Possibility of plaque dislodgement)

Underdiagnosed Abdominal pain

Acute Hypotension ( extremely low blood pressure )

Hyperthyroidisms (Over function of the thyroid)

I am providing this service for detox immunity and fluid reduction. Pre Operative sessions.

If you have had a history of cancer, nodes removed, I am happy to see you with a doctors clearance note to advise you can have lymphatic drainage, but I would also encourage you see a specialised therapist that can help with decongestive dressing which I do not currently provide require further training.

Always happy to discuss with you.
